Shankar Sah Vikramshila College, Kahalgaon is a Constituent Unit of T.M. Bhagalpur University, Bhagalpur. It is situated around 30 Km east of Bhagalpur and 45 Km West of Sahebganj. It is only Constituent College on the border of Jharkhand and Bihar.
It is a matter of great pleasure to discuss regarding ‘Anga Pradesh’ specially Vikramshila region, Ancient Vikramshila University established in 8th Century AD and it remind us the glorious tradition of higher education in ancient india, with the same established on 03rd Dec 1967. Presently a SC/ST welfare Hostel constructed by Bihar State Govt. and a large playground is there.
In 1966 contempory SP of Bhagalpur district Late Badri Narayan Sinha. (IPS), in course of visit to the remains of ancient Vikramshila University, swear in to establish a College in imagination to bring back the old glories of Vikramshila University. On 01st Dec. 1967, he firmily decided publically, not to take food & water, unless collection of Rs. One Lac. comes from local residents for the establishment of the College. Akhandanand Mauni Baba led the movement with help of local public representatives, intellectuals and public administrators and by hard efforts, be able to made collection of Rs. 47,000/- cash and promise of another Rs. 55,000/- within twenty four hours, and thus on the pious day of 03rd Dec. 1967 which is also a birthday of our first President Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Vikramshila College has been formally established and teaching started. The academic session was inaugurated by the then high profile academician Dr. Damodar Thakur, Director, Higher Education, Bihar.
Presenlty teaching in 17 Hons. Subjects. (05 in faculty of Humanities, 07 in faculty of Social Science, 05 in faculty of Science). From academic year 2017-18 Vocational/Professional degree course BCA is going to be started with apporval of T. M. Bhagalpur University, Bhagalpr.
Further the NCC & NSS chapter of our college instill in students a sense of social responsibility, discipline and help them understand and practical solutions to problems confronting individuals, groups and communities. Scholarly societies are function in each department which provides platform to students in organizing different scholarly events. The College has set up Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) which moniters and evaluate the quality of academic delivery and enrichment programmes offered by the College. This Cell is entrusted with the responsibility of collecting feedback from Stakeholders about the quality.
The College facilitates innovative teaching learning process through seminars / Workshops based on the Curriculum, Audio-Visual mode of teaching, study tour/ excursion /field –work, project-work etc. up-gradation of ICT based teaching learning resource such as development of Modern Smart Classes, modernization and upgration of laboratories.
The College has a Wi-Fi enabled Campus provided by Bihar State Government. The College has a well-equpped automated Central Library with OPAC facilities.
